Clinical Pilates & Strengthening Class FAQs

What is the difference between clinical pilates and clinical strengthening?
Ultimately, the body needs some sort of ‘supply’ based loading. This can be done by an array of different modalities; gym exercise, body weight exercise, pilates, yoga etc.
When we are comparing our Clinical Pilates to our Clinical strength, we are focusing on the equipment used to influence that load.
Pilates will predominantly be using our pilates reformer beds, as well as body weight movements. The focus will be slightly in favour of muscular endurance as well as pain relief.
Strength will predominantly be using our gym; our machines, dumbbells, barbells, body weight movements and other bells and whistles we have. We also have some reformer beds available. The focus will be slightly in favour of muscular strength, as well as other dynamic attributes such as reactivity and overall robustness as well as pain relief.
What conditions can Clinical Pilates help with?
Pilates can help with most musculoskeletal conditions. Almost all conditions will respond well to load and body awareness.
In particular, Pilates is favourable with hypermobility, pain, movement fear, pre and post natal pregnancy, osteoarthritis, as well as patients wanting general robustness in a way that is different to what they have done in the past.
How do I start Clinical Pilates / Strengthening at PFC?
Every person that wants to be involved in our clinical exercise program will book into a Clinical Exercise Initial Assessment.
Within this session, we will go through the following:
– Goals
– Injuries past and present
– Medical history and general health
– Expectations and preferences
– Objective assessment of strength, mobility and other physical attributes of the body
– A basic introduction to the equipment you will be using in your chosen class
From there, you will be given 2 x classes free of charge and away you go – maintaining good healthy habits long term throughout our thorough class schedule.
How is Clinical Strength different from a regular gym class?
Here at PFC, each class is run by a physiotherapist. Not only that, but each client’s program has been assessed and tailored to that patient’s physicality and physical goals.
Lastly, each class has a maximum of 5 people to class, making sure that each individual is performing their exercise correctly and safely.

a start up consultation

In the process of starting our pilates or clinical strength classes, one of our physios will have a start up consultation.

These classes are appropriate for people rehabbing an injury, preventing future injuries, maintain their fitness and strength or compliment their existing training.

No matter who you are or why you’re here, we want to tailor your program to you!

In the start up consultation our physio will discuss your goals for these classes and what you’re wanting to get out of it. They will then do a physical assessment to assess where you’re currently at.

This session helps the physio to design a program that will be challenging, yet achievable and specific to your goals and the demands of your lifestyle.
